Elina’s art practice revolves around making political objects: contemporary jewelry and small sculpture as instruments of questioning.
The pieces she creates embody her views about the broader concerns facing humanity, such as human rights, social justice, climate change or gender equality, just to name a few. She oftentimes chooses subjects spontaneously as they unfold as a way to raise her voice and express her perspective on them.
Elina’s intention is to not only create awareness and raise discussion, but to motivate the viewers to reflect on these matters, and challenge them to think critically about universal issues that affect us all.
She works mostly with metals, more frequently with bronze, an alloy that is deeply connected with human history.
Her fascination for—and influence of—ancient artifacts, everyday objects or artworks made through casting methods still in use, is a constant in her work.
In addition to metals, in her work one can see the tendency to explore different materials such as glass, ceramics, concrete, polymer, textiles and others to create extremely tactile pieces.
My artwork, sharp and inquisitive sometimes, playful and celebratory other times, is a compendium of thoughts converted into objects—political objects—about issues of central importance for everyone.
